Join Washington College’s Starr Center for a guided walking tour of African American Historic Sites in Downtown Chestertown. This tour will explore the rich history of the Black Community while showcasing materials from the college’s growing Chesapeake Heartland digital archive. Conversations will explore the 19th century rise of free African American community members, who established businesses, were strong civic leaders and fought for civil liberties. The tour will pay visits to a former oyster bar, the Black strong economic base on Cannon Street, and a U. S. Colored Troops Veteran’s Hall among other sites. Tour lasts for approximately 1 hour.
