On Saturday and Sunday the Chestertown waterfront will be brimming with boats from America’s golden age. Organized in partnership with the Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society, this exhibit will feature some of the finest antique and classic boats around.
In addition to Tall Ships and Antique Boats, the marina will also host a selection of incredibly nifty 8-foot racers called a “SKUA”, an 8 ft. plywood skimmer designed in 1939 by Charles MacGregor. The Cocktail Class Runabout is an economical, easily constructed and exciting race boat ideal for all skill levels and ages.
Come see the Log Canoe Silver Heel - one of approximately 20-25 surviving traditional Chesapeake Bay log sailing canoes, which were the primary fishing craft of the Bay for hundreds of years. She is now operated by the Silver Heel Foundation, dedicated to preserving and promoting the tradition of log canoe sailing through education and outreach.
The Sultana Education Foundation is again proud to partner with the Traditional Small Craft Association for an in-water exhibit of a selection of their member vessels during Downrigging Weekend. The Traditional Small Craft Association, Inc., is a nonprofit educational organization working to preserve and continue the living traditions, skills, lore, and legends surrounding working and pleasure watercraft whose origins predate the marine gasoline engine.
